The electronic reading devices represent electronic devices which main functions serve a portable (space saving) way of storing and viewing of books in the digital format (e-book)
The traffic of the three main chains of online book sellers: Amazon media, Barnes & Noble and Waldenbooks show a growing popularity of e-books. Their transactions, on the American market come close to 250 million which is only 2 percent of the total sales of all formats of books.
One of the main reasons in the growth of popularity of ebooks is the emergence of newly accustomed readers who are bridging the gap between the digital and traditional ways of content consumption. We still have to be keep in mind that the digital formats won’t replace the traditional book anytime soon. These devices will find the most use in business and educational purposes.
The pros of the device are that you can carry a few books, document or other electronic files with you all the time.
The new generation of ERD's will greatly expand their functionality. Added is the whole lineup of new functions: touch screen technology, external memory, wireless access and more.
Pros:
- Ease of access and search of big digital databases on the internet
- Speed and ease of transfer of content to the device
- Ability to store a large amount of files to the device as well as its access on the go
- Access to a large number of books for download from the internet. Free (gutenberg.org) and and
- Preloaded dictionaries with a Multilanguage option.
- View adjustment (size and font type)
Cons:
- Reading off the screen may be difficult for some
- Nothing replaces the feeling of a book in ones hands
- Reading speed has been proven to be slower on screen than on paper
Although the e-books have their benefit they are not perfect. You can never give someone an e-book as a gift; it will never feel the same. You can never enjoy an e-book while lying in bed or in a hot bath. The main point is that e-books are a way for people to receive massive information instantly. If you enjoy holding and reading the book just as a form of bond with the writer then the e-book is not for you. However, if you are just focusing on the information and would like to gather it as soon as possible then electronic books are the solution for you.
